Fertility Transitions

Aim 2 – Fertility transitions in the light of family reproduction

The second component will shed light on the various fertility transitions that occurred at the regional level. It will involve examining the underlying mechanisms and placing them in the broader context of family reproduction. This component will encompass three lines of research.

  • Axis 2.1 Develop a detailed picture of fertility behaviour at multiple geographic scales (region, community, neighbourhood) and across multiple social groups (ethno-religious, socio-occupational, migrant and sedentary populations).
  • Axis 2.2 Examine the impact on fertility behaviour of gender and generational relationships within households.
  • Axis 2.3 Understand the impact of kinship and neighbourhood networks on reproductive mechanisms, especially in the context of migration.
