NEW ADDRESS: http://www.uqtr.ca/EFL
(former address does not work anymore
www.uqtr.ca/~bougaief/EFL )
This site is open to anybody who would like to read - easily - some French literature, with help in English. The EFL system allows you to read - and understand quickly - the original French text on-screen.
Just click on the words you don't understand. For each word, you will get a precise English translation in context, in a pop-up window.
This is not ordinary English translation of the French text in the usual sense; it is just a tool to help you understand easily the original French text, without being distracted by the translation. We purposely kept the grammatical or literary explanations to a minimum so as not to interfere with your train of thought while reading the text.
To print a text with its annotations, click on the printer icon. There is a sound button (in .mp3 files) at the top of paragraphs in some texts. This button allows you to hear the text being read.
This site was created with ANNOTATIONS, a system developed at the UQTR. The ANNOTATIONS system does not translate by itself from one language to another, but it is a very powerful and easy tool with which anybody can add a translation, or an annotation to a text, in any language. Anybody interested in using this system to open a site with his/her own texts, in his/her own languages is welcome to contact the author of the project.
Questions? Please contact the author of the project, Professor André Bougaïeff, Département de Lettres et communication sociale, Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR), at: andre.bougaieff@uqtr.ca
