The data is deeply concerning: Indigenous youth are nearly three times more likely to experience sexual violence than their non-Indigenous peers. Our research shows that between 25% and 50% of Indigenous individuals have been victims of sexual violence before the age of 18.

Two sexual violence prevention programs for youth—designed by and for Indigenous communities—have been developed and evaluated in recent years (Lanterne|Awacic and Lanterne|Auass). These programs offer training for service providers and a variety of educational tools (e.g., videos, games, guides, posters, and discussion booklets) intended for professionals and parents. Our current work aims to further enhance and expand these programs.

Study 1

Implement and evaluate tools designed for parents to support sexuality education and the prevention of sexual violence in children.

study 2

Implement and evaluate prevention tools for adolescents.
