INSTITUTIONAL PRIZE FOR BEST THESIS
At the end of each calendar year, three UQTR Prizes for Best Thesis are awarded in the following categories: Health Sciences, Natural Sciences and Engineering, and Humanities and Social Sciences.
To be eligible, a student must have received a grade of "Outstanding" or "Excellent" during their defense and have submitted their final thesis during the calendar year in question. No action is required from a student whose thesis is eligible, as it will automatically be submitted to the selection process.
For the institutional final, the Cellular and Molecular Biology Program Committee may recommend one of the eligible theses in Cell and Molecular Biology for the calendar year to the Dean's office. To this end, the committee forms a pre-selection committee tasked with establishing a ranking of eligible theses. The pre-selection will consider the theses themselves, as well as the evaluation reports submitted by the various jury members for each thesis. A list of four evaluation criteria is provided by the office of the Dean and applies to both the pre-selection and the final round. The thesis in Cellular and Molecular Biology that ranks first in the pre-selection is the one recommended for the institutional final round.
The pre-selection takes place during the month of January following the calendar year in question. Then, in the following weeks, the Dean of Studies appoints a selection committee for the institutional final round, in each of the three categories. The subject of the finalist theses will determine which of the three categories they will be submitted to. Students whose thesis is recommended for the final round will be asked to provide additional documents, supplementing their thesis and the evaluation reports submitted by their thesis jury members.
Students whose thesis was considered during the pre-selection process in Cellular and Molecular Biology but is not recommended for the final round will be notified by email by the program director. The student whose thesis is recommended for the final will receive a communication from the Dean's Office, explaining the next steps in the process and specifying what additional documents need to be produced.
