HRI’s hydrogen research focuses on developing hydrogen production, hydrogen storage, hydrogen safety and social aspects.

The team is currently broadening its expertise with a particular focus on energy storage, purification, and energy efficiency as well as low-temperature and high-temperature fuel cells and electrolysers.

Well-to-Wheels energy use & emissions for hydrogen production, delivery, and distribution scenarios.

Hydrogen Infrastructure

Techno-economic study of hydrogen fuelling infrastructure for various markets.

Fuel Cells

Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) and Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) development and testing.


Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Water Electrolyser (PEMWE), Alkaline Water Electrolyser (AWE), Anion Exchange Membrane Water Electrolyser (AEMWE) and Solid Oxide Electrolyser Cell (SOEC) development and testing.
