Concept B

The Aquarelle Chair aims to better understand the factors and consequences associated with sexual violence, and to develop and evaluate new targeted prevention programs for vulnerable youth and their parents — including (1) youth with disabilities, (2) Indigenous peoples, and (3) adolescents and emerging adults during key life transitions. The Canada Research Chair also examines the challenges related to inclusion and diversity faced by the families of these victims.

Our objectives

The first objective is to explore lesser-known or understudied consequences of sexual violence — such as its impact on sexual well-being — as well as new explanatory mechanisms and protective factors among vulnerable populations.

The second objective is to design, implement, and evaluate new targeted prevention programs aimed at preventing sexual violence, tailored to the developmental stage and cultural context of vulnerable youth.

Additionally, Prof. Dion and the Aquarelle Chair may align with other related projects in line with her fields of interest, depending on emerging opportunities.

The Aquarelle Chair aims to move the field forward beyond simply measuring rates of sexual violence and its consequences, by:

  • Adopting an interdisciplinary perspective that emphasizes equity, diversity, and inclusion;
  • Focusing on marginalized and minoritized populations, from childhood through the transition to adulthood;
  • Contributing to a global shift in perspective that now recognizes the long-term developmental impact of adverse experiences such as sexual violence.
