I study genetic variation in natural populations and its impact on phenotypes and the structure of populations. A first research axis focuses on the mechanism of biological evolution and a second one on DNA traces.

Evolutionary biology / Ecology

Typically perceived as a slow and imperceptible process, biological evolution can indeed be rapid in natural populations. Using historical data, we study the evolutionary process “in real time” in contemporary human populations and its impact on demography and genetic diseases.

Forensic science

The interpretation of material traces is challenging, including that of DNA “evidence”, which is often surrounded by an aura of superiority owing to its individualization power. We study the implications of the complexity of real populations for trace interpretation.
