ANG1072 - Phonetics

This course aims to help students improve their English pronunciation through the study of phonetic and phonological aspects of the English language.

Students will not only become aware of the inventory of English sounds, but also of how sounds influence each other (assimilation), the role of stress as well as supra segmental aspects of English pronunciation (through groups, rhythm and intonation). By the end of the course, students should not only be able to demonstrate better mastery of English pronunciation, but also identify and describe what makes English pronunciation different from the pronunciation of other languages (i.e. French), and the major differences in pronunciation between English dialects.
