Introduce students to the products of the media industry and culture and prepare them to approach and critique a variety of English language media and to analyse popular topos encountered in popular media. Enable them to draw connections between media presentation and youth culture as a whole.
The works to be studied will come from a variety of contemporary sources such as film, television and magazines. Theory will include readings from feminist studies, semiotics and cultural studies.
