| Résumé : | Le présent article vise à exposer l'intérêt d'une évaluation cognitive poussée lors du diagnostic d'un trouble envahissant du développement (TED). Le niveau de fonctionnement estimé varie grandement selon le type de test utilisé auprès de la population ayant un TED. Certains tests peuvent être utilisés pour rechercher les pics et les creux cognitifs typiques des personnes présentant un TED. L'évaluation cognitive permet alors, par l'établissement d'un profil davantage semblable à l'autisme ou au syndrome d'Asperger, de préciser le diagnostic. L'évaluation cognitive permet aussi d'orienter les recommandations en fonction des forces et des besoins spécifiques de chaque individu. |
| Abstract : | The aim of this article is to demonstrate the importance of a thorough cognitive assessment in association with the diagnostic investigation of individuals with pervasive developmental disorders (PDD). Characteristic findings of such an assessment are described. The estimated level of functioning in PDD varies greatly according to the type of test used. Specific tests can reveal peaks and valleys indicative of PDD or one of its subgroups, autism or Asperger syndrome. Cognitive assessment also allows the orienting of recommendations according to an individual's specific strengths and needs. |
