A research Internship at UQTR allows you to put your research skills to work on researchers’ challenging projects! You will be able to put into practice the theoretical and methodological tools acquired during your current university training and gain research experience while being supervised by passionate researchers and integrated into dynamic teams!

COVID-19 Information
Due to COVID-19 pandemic, the hosting of international research interns must comply with all guidelines and measures requires by Public Health Canada as well as those required by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
Can I be an international Research Intern?
To be registered as a Research Intern, you must be a full-time student at your home university and be invited and supervised by a UQTR professor.
Required documents and relevant information
You must obtain an Invitation Letter produced and signed by your UQTR supervisor. You will find the available templates below. If you do not find the model that applies to your situation, please contact us: stage.recherche@uqtr.ca.
It is the intern's responsibility to check with the Canadian consular services serving his or her country to find out how to enter Canada. We invite you to consult the "Permis de travail (stagiaire de recherche)" section of this web page (French only).
You must complete the appropriate Internship Agreement: have the section reserved for your institution completed and signed, and return it to our team at stage.recherche@uqtr.ca for signature and approval. You will find the available templates below. If you do not find the model that applies to your situation, please contact us: stage.recherche@uqtr.ca.
- Research internship kit:
The applicant is a full-time student in a bachelor's, master's or doctoral program at his/her home university outside Canada.(new window)

The applicant is a full-time student in a bachelor's, master's or doctoral program at another Canadian university.
- Research internship for guest researcher kit:
The candidate is a professor or researcher employed by a university outside Canada.
- Postdoctoral research internship:
The candidate holds a doctorate (or equivalent) or has submitted his/her thesis and received his/her doctorate within six months of the start of the internship.:fD(new window)

Find a supervisor.
- The future intern must get in touch directly with the UQTR supervisor with whom he/she wishes to do a research internship to obtain a letter of invitation. To calculate the duration of the internship (the number of days between two dates), you can use this website.

Once the details of your internship are agreed with your supervisor, complete the Internship Agreement template relevant to your project.
Complete the required documents with your supervisor, get the required signatures from your home university, and return them to our team for final signature.

Complete the immigration procedures that apply to your situation.

- Work Permit:
If it is determined that you require an employer-specific Work Permit, you must notify our team in order to create the job offer number in IRCC system to be included with your Work Permit Application. We invite you to consult the summary table at the following link (French only) to verify the exemption code that applies to your situation. You will need to complete and return the Information Form to initiate the process of creating a job offer. More info, visit Work permit exempt from the LMIA. - Passport:
You must have a passport that is valid for more than six months after the planned end of your stay. - Warning:
You must obtain the required travel authorization before planning your trip to Canada.

All the supporting documents mentioned above must be sent by email to gdd@uqtr.ca in one email (please CC stage.recherche@uqtr.ca):

- Proof of medical insurance coverage (FR or ENG), if applicable*
* By default, UQTR enrolls all research interns in its International Student Medical Insurance Plan. If you already have equivalent coverage, you must provide proof of this at the time of enrollment to avoid paying the fees. Proof must include your name, coverage details, and validity period.
A UQTR officer will confirm your admission within 3 to 5 working days. Admission will allow you to activate the student portal, activate your @uqtr.ca e-mail address, obtain the secure Wi-Fi code, access the library and its digital resources, access certain restricted access research facilities, etc.
