Types of memberships

Regular student:

A regular student member is a graduate student whose main research advisor is a Regular GRIL member. Regular members are eligible for GRIL scholarship and funding programs.

If the regular student member is also a member of another FRQ strategic cluster (FRQNT, FRQSC or FRQS), they:

  1. cannot combine major GRIL fellowships (all Collaborative Projects) with scholarships from another FRQ research center during their current degree;
  2. cannot benefit from the metaGRIL scholarship or Internships in other GRIL member laboratories if they receive funding from another FRQ research center for the same activity;
  3. cannot benefit from direct GRIL funding for travel outside Quebec to attend conferences, internships, courses or workshops that are already funded by another FRQ research center;
  4. may participate in intellectual activities offered by other FRQ research centers (if permitted by their rules) for which no direct transfer of funds to the student or research advisor is involved, such as conferences, symposia, internships, courses and training workshops offered in Quebec.

Collaborating student:

A collaborating student member is a graduate student to whom one of the following cases applies:

  • their main research advisor is a Regular GRIL member, but the student receives direct fellowship funding from another FRQ research center (FRQNT, FRQSC or FRQS);
  • their co-advisor (but not their main advisor) is a Regular GRIL member;
  • their primary research advisor is a Collaborating GRIL member.

Collaborating students may benefit, subject to space and budget availability, from a free registration to the Annual SymposiumFall Workshopsscientific workshops and data derbies.

The student can also apply to certain scholarship and funding programs offered by the GRIL, including:

  1. funding for submitting metadata (metaGRIL scholarship) if not already funded by another FRQ research center;
  2. funding for internships in the labs of GRIL members, if the internship is not already funded by another FRQ research center.
