Call for Papers

 Today, people working in Natural Language Processing (NLP) domain, especially Semantic, Logics and Information Extraction (SLIE), are often members of interdisciplinary teams, including computer scientists, experts in artificial intelligence, mathematicians, statisticians, logicians, linguists, philosophers, cognitive scientists, cognitive psychologists, psycholinguists, anthropologists and neuroscientists, among others. NLP-SLIE is not just a subfield of computer science, information engineering, and artificial intelligence. It is, also, connected to cognitive sciences through the development of cognitive theories. We can see NLP-SLIE divided into two parts: (1) its theoretical descriptions; (2) its concrete implementations. The theoretical aspect includes philosophical hypothesis, psychological hypothesis, linguistics methods as semantics, syntax, morphology, etc., or numerical methods as classification, neural networks, Naive Bayes, deep learning, etc. At the present stage of research, there still a gap between theoretical approaches and computer implementations. There are many computer applications without any solid theoretical foundations, and there are many theoretical methods with no computer implementation. Theoretical Methods and computational implementations for the NLP-SLIE must take into account this epistemological chain for to lead to effective, robust and reliable systems.

 Papers and contributions are encouraged for any work relating to Natural Language Processing. Topics of interest may include (but are in no way limited to):

  • Philosophy of language – new developments,
  • Cognitive semantics,
  • Logics of language,
  • Language modeling,
  • Computational linguistics (lexicology; morphology; syntax; semantics),
  • Information extraction,
  • Domain ontologies, linguistic ontologies,
  • Knowledge processing,
  • Translation,
  • Text-mining.
  • Machine Learning and Deep-Learning.
  • etc.

 Note: We invite original papers (i.e. work not previously submitted, in submission, or to be submitted to another conference during the reviewing process).

 

Submission Guidelines

Submitted papers must be original, and not submitted concurrently to a journal or another conference. All papers should follow the formatting template ( FLAIRS Template.zip) and should be submitted as PDF through the EasyChair conference system, which can be accessed through the submission site https://easychair.org/my/conference?conf=flairs36 .

Types of submissions

  • Long/full paper: 6 pages (excluding references)

  • Short paper: 4 pages (excluding references)

  • Poster abstract: up to 2 pages (excluding references)

There are three kinds of submissions: full paper – a paper of high quality, which will be published in the proceedings (up to 6 pages plus references) and will be presented by the author in a corresponding track (20 minute oral presentation); short paper – a paper that shows some novelty and general interest, but is more preliminary or in the early stages of development, which also get published in the proceedings (up to 4 pages plus references) and the author presents the work in a poster session; and poster paper, which will be published as a poster paper (up to 2 pages plus references) and the author presents the work in a poster session. Rejected full papers may still be accepted as short papers or posters, if reviewers found interest in the idea, but the paper quality was not sufficient to be published in full length. There will also be a separate poster only submission for authors who want to submit and present it in a poster session.

Appendices after the references are permitted but might not be reviewed, and appendices will not be permitted in the final version of the paper if it is accepted.

Double-blind reviewing will be provided, so submitted papers must use fake/anonymized author names and affiliations. Papers must use the latest template and must be submitted as PDF

The paper submission is a two-step process. First, the paper abstract needs to be registered in EasyChair by the Paper abstract submission deadline. Then, the full paper in PDF is due by the Paper submission deadline. Remember, without registering your abstract on time, you will not be allowed to submit the paper later.

For each accepted paper (full, short, or poster abstract), there must be an accompanying AUTHOR REGISTRATION. A single author may have up to a maximum of two papers per AUTHOR REGISTRATION. Author names may be changed or re-ordered after reviewing; however, for budgetary reasons, registration fees will be based on the details at the time of submission and review.

FLAIRS will not accept any paper which, at the time of submission, is under review for or has already been published or accepted for publication in a journal or another conference. Authors are also required not to submit their papers elsewhere during FLAIRS's review period. These restrictions apply only to journals and conferences, not to workshops and similar specialized presentations with a limited audience and without archival proceedings. Authors will be required to confirm that their submissions conform to these requirements at the time of submission.

Proceedings

The proceedings of FLAIRS-36 will be published by Florida Online Journals (https://journals.flvc.org/) which is indexed in DBLP and Scopus. Authors are expected to make a reasonable effort to address reviewers’ comments prior to the submission of the camera-ready paper. Where such expectations have been flouted, actions may be taken to preserve the quality of the conference and the expectations of conference goers. In order for a paper to be published in the proceedings, all accepted papers (full, short and poster) must be accompanied by at least one AUTHOR REGISTRATION. It is also expected that at least one of the authors will attend the conference to present their work. A single author may have up to a maximum of two papers per AUTHOR REGISTRATION. Author names may be changed or re-ordered after reviewing; however, for budgetary reasons, registration fees will be based on the details at the time of submission and review.

Interested authors should format their papers according to Florida Online Journal formatting guidelines. The papers should be original work (i.e., not submitted, in submission, or submitted to another conference while in review). Papers should not exceed 6 pages and are due by February, 13th, 2023 (an abstract must be submitted by february, 6th, 2023). For FLAIRS-36, the 2023 conference, the reviewing is a double-blind process. Fake author names and affiliations must be used on submitted papers to provide double-blind reviewing. Papers must be submitted as PDF through the EasyChair conference system, which can be accessed through the main conference web site (https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=flairs36). Note: do not use a fake name for your EasyChair login - your EasyChair account information is hidden from reviewers. Authors should indicate the [your track name] special track for submissions. The proceedings of FLAIRS will be published by Florida Online Journal. FLAIRS requires that there be at least one full author registration per paper.
