How to apply for UQTR preselection?

1) Eligibility screening 

Candidates must: 

1. ensure that they meet all the requirements for the component(s) they wish to apply for (see eligibility conditions on the FRQNT website and on the application form) and;

2) University pre-selection

The eligible candidate must submit their file by submitting all the required information and documents electronically within the application form available under the “Candidature/Application Form” tab of this website.

Deadline: August 20, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. (Quebec time)

Check list – application materials

1. Scholarship application form (see “Application” tab);

2. A photocopy of the identification page of a valid passport from the candidate’s country of origin or of any official document that enables the candidate’s citizenship to be determined;                     

3. Transcripts for all university studies, whether completed or not (certificates, diplomas, Bachelors, Master’s, PhD, etc.). Transcripts for equivalences granted for courses taken at other institutions or for previous programs must be enclosed with the file. For transcripts from outside North America, candidates must enclose a letter explaining the grading system used by the institution concerned. FRQNT reserves the right to verify with the institutions the authenticity of any information given by applicants. Transcripts must be organized chronologically, from the most recent to the oldest;

   3.1. Master and Doctoral research component (VM, V1, 1B, 1C, 1I, 1IS, 1W)
    - If applicable, an attestation from the registrar's office identifying part-time or unregistered semester
    - An official attestation of interrupted enrolment and, where applicable, a medical certificate indicating the duration and the reasons for the interruption;

   3.2. Postdoctoral scholarship component (V2, 2B, 2C, 2I)
 - A copy of the Ph.D. diploma (or attestation of the first reading of the dissertation). If these documents cannot be provided, a copy of the doctoral transcript is required

4. Acceptance letter from a UQTR professor (the prospective research supervisor), indicating interest in the research project and explaining:
 - how this student may contribute to the internationalization of research and the promotion of UQTR,
 - to what extent the candidate’s research project falls within their research activities,
 - the type of supervision that will be offered to the candidate and
 - how the host setting offered to the candidate will allow him/her to achieve their objectives

The letter should be printed on letterhead, signed, scanned and sent by email to the International Relations Office  at: echange.bri@uqtr.ca;

 - An updated resume;

 - Acknowledgements of receipt from the editor for all articles submitted and notices received from editors for articles accepted for publication (not the published articles);                       

 - Copies of the announcement or confirmation letters for all of the scholarships received.   

 - Letters of reference (optional in certain cases)                          

Important: Documents must be submitted in PDF version. Documents submitted in a language other than French or English must be accompanied by a translation of the original.

Important: Applications that do not contain all of the required information to establish eligibility or to make an assessment will be declared non-eligible.

3) Preselection committees 

The UQTR preselection committees, consisting of professors from all sectors who do not support any candidate, will choose the applications that will be sent to the FRQNT for the next stage.

If your application is successful at UQTR

1) Submission of nominations by academic institutions

UQTR will submit to the FRQNT the list of shortlisted candidates no later than September 30, 2023. Only candidates shortlisted by UQTR will receive a personal identification number and a password.

2) Submission of grant applications to the FRQNT

Shortlisted candidates must send their complete file directly to the FRQNT at the Contest Deadline on the FRQ’s web portal. Preselected candidates will receive an identification number (PIN) and password to access the portal.

Deadline: November 1, 2023,  4:00 p.m. (Quebec time)

3) Announcement of results

Results are usually announced by email at the end of April of the following year.

4) Immigration modalities

The selected candidates will have to fulfill the immigration requirements before arriving to UQTR. For more information:
