Pregnant? Join the STEP Program
What?
The STEP Program is a free psychoeducational and support group intervention designed to promote psychological well-being during the perinatal period and to support the development of the unborn child. The program is part of a larger research project aimed at evaluating its effectiveness. Financial compensation is provided for completing questionnaires and interviews before and after the program.
Who?
The program is intended for pregnant women who experienced difficult events during childhood or adolescence, whether or not they currently have concerns related to pregnancy or motherhood.
How?
The program includes eight to nine sessions (in person or online) offered to groups of four to six women.

The STEP program aims to...
- foster a deeper experience of pregnancy and a greater readiness to welcome the baby;
- reflect on how past difficult experiences may influence current functioning, emotions, experiences of motherhood, and one’s sense of oneself as a mother;
- explore new ways of coping with stress and unpleasant emotions that may arise during pregnancy or in the maternal role;
- share ideas, experiences, and knowledge in a safe and supportive environment.
In the STEP Program, participants are never required to revisit past memories or share those experiences with the group. The focus is rather on gently reconsidering how difficult childhood experiences may have shaped current patterns and on recognizing the strengths available to overcome them. This is done through structured, reflective activities while allowing space for discussion and personal experience.
