Chaire de recherche UQTR pour la santé et sécurité au travail-UQTR Research Chair on Advanced Materials for occupational health and safety

Le professeur Phuong Nguyen-Tri s'est vu attribuer par l'UQTR une Chaire de recherche "Junior" dans le secteur des sciences naturelles et du génie. Le conseil d'administration a approuvé la création de la Chaire de recherche UQTR sur les matériaux avancés pour la santé et sécurité au travail ainsi que la nomination de M. Nguyen-Tri à titre de titulaire.

Le mandat de la Chaire de recherche de l’UQTR vise à développer de nouvelles connaissances scientifiques dont les retombés sont bénéfiques non seulement aux travailleurs et employeurs du Québec mais également aux fabricants d’équipement de protection et aux manufacturiers des matériaux avancés. Plus spécifiquement, la chaire vise à développer les matériaux avancés, basés principalement à la biomasse et les  solutions  globales  et  vertes  permettant entre autre de procurer des structures fonctionnelles aux équipements  de  protection  en santé et sécurité du travail (SST) pour mieux détecter les risques et de réagir face aux dangers comme par exemples les gants auto adaptatifs, les combinaisons repoussant des pesticides et les vêtements des pompiers intelligents; l’élaboration d’applications concrètes et réalisables en concertation à la fois avec les manufacturiers  et  les  utilisateurs  d’équipements  de  protection;  la  formation  de personnel qualifié pour relever les défis de la R&D dans les équipements et matériaux avancés de protection et  assurer  la  relève ;  le  renfort  de  la  diffusion  des  résultats  et  du  transfert  des connaissances vers le milieu de travail, les centres de recherche et l’industrie au niveau local, national et international, et le support adéquat et permanent pour la recherche sur les éco-matériaux de protection, entre autres à la maximisation de l’effet de levier des contributions industrielles, des organismes subventionnaires régionaux et fédéraux et finalement d’élargir le réseau de collaboration national et international de l’UQTR dans le domaine ciblé.

 En tenant compte de l’ampleur des problèmes, de l’urgence des besoins et du caractère générique des solutions possibles, trois axes de recherche prioritaires de la chaire SST de l’UQTR ont été proposés, qui possèdent des applications concrètes à court terme et à long terme en SST:

  • la protection autoadaptative contre les risques mécaniques : coupure, perforation, piqûre par les aiguilles, résistance aux lames pointues, déchirure, impact, balistique, etc.;
  • la protection autoadaptative contre les risques chimiques et biologiques: solvants, contaminants industriels, nanoparticules, protection antibactérienne, etc.;
  • la protection autoadaptative contre les flammes: températures extrêmes, inflammabilité, comportement hygrothermique, suivi des conditions externes, suivi de l’état de dégradation des matériaux;

English:

               Professor Phuong Nguyen-Tri has been awarded by the UQTR a "Junior" Research Chair in the natural sciences and engineering. The Board of Directors has been approved the creation of the UQTR Research Chair on Advanced Materials for occupational health and safety as well as the appointment of Mr. Nguyen-Tri as chair holder.

The mandate of the UQTR Research Chair aims to develop new scientific knowledge whose benefits are beneficial not only to workers and employers in Quebec but also to manufacturers of protective equipment and manufacturers of advanced materials. More specifically, the chair aims to develop advanced materials, mainly based on biomass and global and green solutions allowing, among other things, to provide functional structures for occupational health and safety (OHS) equipment to better detect risks and react to dangers such as self-adaptive gloves, pesticides repellant suits and smart firefighters' clothes; the development of concrete and achievable applications in consultation with both manufacturers and users of protective equipment; training of qualified personnel to meet the challenges of R&D in advanced protective equipment and materials and ensure succession; strengthening the dissemination of results and the transfer of knowledge to the workplace, research centers and industry at local, national and international level, and adequate and permanent support for research on protective eco-materials, among other things, to maximize the leverage effect of industrial contributions, regional and federal granting agencies, and finally to expand the UQTR's national and international collaboration network in the targeted field.

 Considering the magnitude of the problems, the urgency of the needs and the generic nature of the possible solutions, three priority research axes of the UQTR, the research activities of the Chair will be focused to the following concrete applications: • self-adaptive protection against mechanical risks: cutting, puncturing, needlestick, resistance to sharp blades, tearing, impact, ballistics, etc.• self-adaptive protection against chemical and biological risks: solvents, industrial contaminants, nanoparticles, antibacterial protection, etc.• self-adaptive flame protection: extreme temperatures, flammability, hygrothermal behavior, monitoring of external conditions, monitoring of the state of degradation of materials;
